New Wood Carving - Crow Cane and a Happy July 4th to my American Readers

Walking cane carved from Basswood and
an old broom handle

Hi all.  This is my latest wood carving.  The crow's eyes are two obsidian beads I had left over from another craft project.  It's better when I can use real stones instead of synthetic.  I put small brass nails in the holes for "pupils".  This carving was kind of rushed because...well....in fact I really needed a functional cane, due to increasing mobility issues related to osteoarthritis in both knees.

The cane works great….and is a great signature piece due to my love of all things crow.  I even showed it to the crows in my neighbourhood.  They were not impressed lol : )

Also, a Happy July 4th to my American Readers.  May you use this time off from your work-a-day world to get out and enjoy the beautiful nature on this North American continent.

Lee Valley is great for a lot of things
cabinet handles for instance- that's where I got my kitchen and bathroom cabinet handles... big selection- all price ranges
I want to get their big herb dryer that hangs up- but haven't got over there yet to get it.

Hi Penny:

Thanks for the kudos on the cane. NEVER throw out an old broom. Cut off the wooden handle and give it to a wood carver! Or, better yet, sand it and carve something on it yourself!

Lee Valley is my candy store ; )

Hi Jody:

I've been carving full time, ever since retiring from social work in 2013. Here's the link to the page on this blog where I show my arts and crafts. Went to art school in the 1960's and have done arts and crafts all my life...but just took up wood carving six years ago.
