Tempest in Hockey/Poppy Teapot totally ignores Refugee/Immigrant right not to support military that destroyed their countries

Bobby Orr and Don Cherry - Two White Guys
without a Clue as to What the Poppy
 Represents to "You People"

There's a Tempest in a Hockey Teapot brewing up here in Big White.  I won't bore you with the details except to point to two headlines in this morning's Newz.  First this one from the National Post:

'He's not a bigot': Bobby Orr calls Don Cherry's firing 'disgraceful'

Orr said co-host Ron MacLean, who nodded along with Cherry's remarks, threw his long-time friend under the bus: 'Shame on him'

...And then there's this story from citynews1130 which describes what happened.  Please read and I will have some mercifully brief comments to follow:

Bobby Orr defends Don Cherry, rips Sportsnet for decision to fire comment

Legendary defenceman Bobby Orr has blasted Sportsnet for firing Don Cherry.

In an interview with Boston radio station WEEI on Thursday, Orr called the decision to sack his former Bruins coach “disgraceful.”

“I know Grapes better than anybody,” Orr said. “He’s not a bigot and he’s not a racist. This guy is the most generous, caring guy that I know. What they’ve done to him up there is disgraceful, it really is. It’s a new world I guess. Freedom of speech doesn’t matter.”

Sportsnet fired Cherry on Monday following his comments on “Hockey Night in Canada,” which many felt were critical of immigrants for not wearing Remembrance Day poppies.

“You people that come here, whatever it is, you love our way of life, you love our milk and honey, at least you can pay a couple bucks for a poppy or something like that,” Cherry said last Saturday on his “Coach’s Corner” segment. “These guys paid for your way of life that you enjoy in Canada, these guys paid the biggest price.”

Cherry has denied he was singling out visible minorities.

Orr said he has talked to Cherry every day since the firing.

“He’s getting some nice calls from his friends here in Boston,” Orr said. “He is getting some wonderful support. He’s hurt, but he’s going to be fine.”

Sportsnet has not announced its plans for the “Coach’s Corner” segment. A message left with co-host Ron MacLean was not immediately returned.

The first “Hockey Night in Canada” since the firing is Saturday night.

Orr and Cherry have had a long connection, dating back to their days with the Bruins in the mid-1970s.

The two have been regulars at the Canadian Hockey League’s annual top prospects game since its inception in 1996, with the teams usually called “Team Orr” and “Team Cherry.”

Cherry’s name was mentioned in the March 2019 press release announcing the 2020 event. A CHL spokesman said in an email this week that coaches and rosters were still being reviewed for the Jan. 16 game in Hamilton, Ont.

This report by The Canadian Press was first published Nov. 15, 2019.

The Canadian Press

Greencrow says:  Don Cherry is 85 years old.  He's stuck in a WWI/WWII time warp.  The veterans of today's Western armies fought in the Perpetual Resource Wars for the Jews in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Syria, Yemen, Africa, etc., etc., etc..  Hundreds of thousands of victims of those wars were flushed out of their countries by the violence and destruction perpetrated on them by Western/NATO armies.  Many found their way to Canada. Let's not be coy. It's these Middle Eastern and Asian refugees that Cherry was referring to with his "You People" remark.

Why should the refugees have salt rubbed in their being forced to wear a symbol of the military force that destroyed their countries of origin?  That is the only question that needs to be asked here.  North Americans and the peoples of all countries that are members of NATO need to know there's a price to be paid for looting resources and destroying third world nations' landsIf it's seeing someone not wearing a poppy on Remembrance be it!

The NHL went seriously downhill when they hired a Jewish lawyer that has never played hockey or even skated, to be the NHL commissioner. As for Cherry, he is senile and he believes and supports the 9/11 cover up. Ron Maclean is the most offensively patronizing hockey announcer ever born, I'd rather have a root canal that listen to him. If people like hockey, go watch a junior game and save a whole lot of money.

Don Cherry is/was the village idiot. Always has been. However, in today's age, even the village idiot cannot commit crimethink.

A bit like the canary in the coal mine, we have reached new lows in terms of allowing a "diversity" of opinions. To be clear, I think his opinion is idiotic. I also disagree with his firing.
