Trump's meeting with Trudeau
It was all happening so fast it made your head spin...the speed at which the Trump Presidency was being taken apart just as fast as it was being jury-rigged together. Expectations, raised in the morning were dashed by noon. Overnight, 180 degree swings in momentum, agenda, philosophy and politics took place. You could even sense it when watching, as I did, yesterday's meeting between Canada's Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau and US President Donald Trump. You could see and palpably feel the difference in level of confidence between the two leaders. Justin was in his element...playing the "seasoned" (lol) politician against the "young ingénue" subdued Trump. Seriously folks, Trump's thoughts appeared to be elsewhere as he barely spoke above a whisper. He did not seem to have an adequate grasp of the complex dynamic between these two longstanding neighbours...the elephant (US) that sleeps with the mouse (Canada) as Justin's father so inelegantly put it years ago. Trump had nothing relevant to add, other than mouthing generalities...while Justin verbally danced around him with references to specific markers along the shared history of the countries...spoken in dazzling bilingualism. It is doubtful that Trump "got" what Trudeau was doing for his domestic Canadian audience..with his show of flawless bilingualism. Trump would not likely know that a unilingual English-speaking media darling candidate, Kevin O'Leary, has recently entered the race for the Conservative leadership. Trudeau was showing off to the Canadians back at home that "speaking French" is de rigeur when mollifying the aggressive Quebec press. And, ironically, this was what I found most hypocritical about le Dauphin's performance.
Trudeau spoke flawless French and English...yet recently appointed as his Minister of Foreign Affairs, Chrystia Freeland, an ethnic Ukrainian who is a supporter of the Kiev Junta in Ukraine with their violent neo Nazi faction. This is an illegal coup government that has deprived the ethnic Russian and Russian-speaking citizens of the Donbass "official language status" of Russian, their native tongue. Trudeau's father fought for Quebeccers' right to speak French...and for French to be one of Canada's two "official languages". That's why the English speaking citizens of British Columbia have French on all our cereal boxes. We don't mind...because we understand that accepting a language of a sizeable minority is one of the prices to be paid for a unified country. But Trudeau can't (or won't) see that necessity for the Donbass...or Crimea...or he would never have appointed the "Trojan horse" Freeland.
But, I digress...this post was supposed to be about how the Trump presidency is imploding. Well, if Donald Trump appeared to be distracted and muted during the Trudeau joint press conference...it was only hours before we found out why. His National Security advisor, General Michael Flynn, was forced to resign over allegations that he had lied about having unofficial talks with the Russian Ambassador to Washington...specifically about sanctions Obama had placed on Russia. Here is a report on the sudden resignation from the Duran.
It was only a few more hours after that before the import of that resignation became clear to me. I discovered it in this excellent analysis in The Saker. Please read the excerpts below and I will have more thoughts in comments to follow:
The Neocons and the “deep state” have neutered the Trump Presidency, it’s over folks!
From The Saker
The consequences of this [Flynn resignation] will be immense. For one thing, Trump is now clearly broken. It took the ‘deep state’ only weeks to castrate Trump and to make him bow to the powers that be. Those who would have stood behind Trump will now feel that he will not stand behind them and they will all move back away from him. The Neocons will feel elated by the elimination of their worst enemy and emboldened by this victory they will push on, doubling-down over and over and over again.
It’s over, folks, the deep state has won.
So, that is what I sensed in Trump's muted demeanor during the Trudeau/Trump press conference...he was already a "broken man"...here is more from the Saker's post:
and, crucially, from the Saker comments below:....I have to credit Russian analysts who for several weeks already have been comparing Trump to Yanukovich, who also was elected by a majority of the people and who failed to show the resolve needed to stop the ‘color revolution’ started against him. But if Trump is the new Yanukovich, will the US become the next Ukraine?
Flynn was very much the cornerstone of the hoped-for Trump foreign policy. There was a real chance that he would reign in the huge, bloated and all-powerful three letter agencies and that he would focus US power against the real enemy of the West: the Wahabis. With Flynn gone, this entire conceptual edifice has now come down. We are going to be left with the likes of Mattis and his anti-Iranian statements. Clowns who only impress other clowns.
Today Neocon victory is a huge event and it will probably be completely misrepresented by the official media. Ironically, Trump supporters will also try minimize it all. But the reality is that barring a most unlikely last-minute miracle, it’s over for Trump and the hopes of millions of people in the USA and the rest of the world who had hoped that the Neocons could be booted out of power by means of a peaceful election. That is clearly not going to happen.
